Tooth Decay

Tooth decay (cavities) has been a constant problem through the ages. We now understand that it is caused by oral bacteria discharging acid onto the tooth enamel. In the 20th Century research has discovered better methods of prevention and treatment.

How To Prevent It

Today millions of Canadian children have little or no decay and edentulism, or tooth loss, is far less common. The research has also produced major inroads to combating periodontal disease.

Our goal is prevention. Improved products, preventive dentistry, and other innovations are all techniques that have helped us develop better dental health in this country.
