What are Porcelain Dental Veneers?

Porcelain dental veneers are shells that are custom made to cover the tooth surface and are used to correct worn, stained, crooked and discoloured teeth. They are tooth coloured and extremely thin. They are very difficult to distinguish from natural teeth but they are highly resistant to stains from coffee, tea or cigarettes.

Will Porcelain Veneers Look Natural?

Actually veneers are probably the most natural appearing restoration available. The porcelain reflects light just like the enamel on teeth, and in many ways they are superior. They are very resistant to stains and will not wear down like natural teeth. After years of wear and proper maintenance they are as bright and shiny as when they were applied.

There is very little preparation necessary for a veneer procedure. They do not in any way weaken the existing tooth structure. Our dentists use a specialize technique to increase resiliency and the longest lasting cement for their attachment. What Is Involved In Getting Porcelain Veneers?

The process for porcelain veneers is very simple. We start with taking impressions of your teeth. Then we put temporary veneers in place until the permanent products are returned from the lab, which takes about two weeks. Then we proceed to permanently bond these porcelain veneers to the teeth.

The veneers are custom made for you and are hand made by our lab technicians. This assures a better fit and avoids the issues of machine generated veneers. As long as you maintain proper oral health and visit the dentist as instructed, you have a five-year guarantee from the date of insertion.

Can I Treat Them Like Regular Teeth?

Veneers are not recommended for people who have issues with grinding their teeth or have severe bite issues. Bad habits like nail biting is discouraged as well as using your teeth to open hair pins or the like. Home cleaning and maintenance is imperative to keep their shiny appearance.

What if I don’t want to alter the structure of my teeth?

If you are concerned about the basics of your teeth, we recommend Lumineers®. These are very much like porcelain veneers, but are much thinner. They are applied without drilling or freezing, so the tooth structure remains intact.
