Preventative Dentistry
Preventative Dentistry
Just like in mechanics, preventive maintenance is always a good plan. In dentistry it allows us to identify potential problems and provide instruction about how to avoid them in the first place. Much of it involves basics of brushing and flossing, but it can also incorporate advanced laser gum therapy.
Regular examinations and x-rays can help prevent the factors that contribute to decay, tooth loss, periodontal disease, and other situations. With check ups at least twice per year, our staff will remove the tartar and plaque build-up and check your gums to be sure they are still healthy and firm.
Best Preventive Practices at Home
Many preventive measures can be taken in the privacy of your own home:
- Brushing
- Flossing
- Mouthwash
- Stay hydrated
- Minimize consumption of sugary and acidic foods
Along with this comes in-office professional cleanings, examinations, x-rays and screenings, particularly for cancer.
Dental Exams and Cleanings
Regular exams include work by one of our trained, experienced hygienists. At that time he or she will remove any plaque and tartar from the gum line, clean and polish the surfaces of your teeth and floss between and around each tooth.
The dentist will carefully examine your mouth for any signs of decay, chips, cracks and evaluate the condition of any crowns or implants.
